With Dr. Steven Stec as his dad, dentistry has always been a part of Dr. CJ’s life! Growing up, he spent a lot of time in the dental office, and he would even help clean the rooms and windows during school breaks. However, it wasn’t until college that he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. During his undergraduate years, he got involved with an organization called Mission of Mercy, which provides free dental care to those in need. The experience was genuinely life-changing, and he knew after volunteering that he had found his true calling.
After studying at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, Dr. CJ earned his dental doctorate at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Since then, he has pursued advanced training on everything from implant dentistry and Invisalign to cosmetic dentistry. Plus, he has maintained active memberships with the American Dental Association as well as other professional organizations.
As for his life outside of dentistry, Dr. CJ has a wife and three kids at home! He loves spending as much time as he can with his loved ones, and his hobbies include hunting, golfing, and traveling.Dr. Stines is another one of our talented and experienced dentists near Wood River. Although he didn’t have an interest in dentistry growing up, that changed when a family friend invited him to spend a week at his practice. This is when Dr. Stines saw first-hand that he could combine technology and science together while working with his hands and changing lives for the better. Then and there, he knew he had found what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
As for his studies, Dr. Stines graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University before attending the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. The next step was to join the United States Air Force. He completed a one-year residency program at Offutt Air Force Base and then became the Chief of Clinical Dentistry at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS. At this time, he learned more about IV sedation, root canals, tooth extractions, and other advanced treatments.
At home, Dr. Stines has a wife and two boys, Holden and Carter. They love spending time outdoors, especially being on the water in the summer and hunting during the winter.
Dr. Steven opened his practice roughly 40 years ago, and he’s been honored to help so many of his friends and neighbors achieve healthy, beautiful smiles. His journey to becoming a top-rated dentist near Wood River began at the University of Nebraska. From there, he studied at the UNMC College of Dentistry, which is where he earned his dental doctorate. Forever pursuing advanced training, he has completed continuing education with world-renowned institutions like the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. To this day, he is an active member of the International College of Dentists, the Nebraska Dental Association, and the American Dental Association as well.
Dr. Steven and his wife, Beckie, have three adult children and six grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, some of his favorite things to do are golf and travel!

You’ll first need to define what you think is most important about getting dental care. This is typically a mixture of different factors like safety, tidiness, hours, credentials, payment/fees, and location. You’ll also need to figure out the kind of care you require, such as preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry. Do you want to improve the color, shape, or size of your teeth? Need to replace a missing tooth? Or do you just need a checkup? Also, you’ll want to become familiar with your dental team and how they interact with their patients. Fortunately, our team prioritizes every patient’s dental needs on a personal level, providing custom treatments tailored to each individual.
Calling our practice should be your first move so that you can notify our team and we can prepare you for a visit. Of course, if you’re experiencing more serious symptoms like uncontrollable bleeding or a dislocated/broken jaw, then you should call 911 and/or visit your local ER instead. They’ll be able to stabilize your condition and ensure you’re safe before you’re able to see us for dental care. If you do have a dental emergency, we can provide same-day appointments so you can regain your healthy and comfortable smile as soon as possible. Remember that most emergencies are a result of complications that are avoidable in the early stages, so be sure to seek preventive care regularly to keep your smile safer in the long run.
The price for dental checkups and cleanings typically varies based on factors like geography and the health of a patient’s smile. In most cases across the United States, these appointments can range between $200 and $300. This amount can, of course, change if you have dental insurance, as your provider and dentist may negotiate the fees. Dental checkups and cleanings typically involve reviewing your health history and discussing any of your questions and concerns. You should also expect an oral exam, X-rays, professional teeth cleaning, and an oral cancer screening.
Don’t forget that dentistry is mostly about prevention, so visiting your dentist for checkups and cleanings will be your surest way of minimizing the cost of care. If you have an insurance plan, make sure to take advantage of your benefits to lower your out-of-pocket expenses. Even if you don’t have coverage, our team is partnered with CareCredit—a third-party financier that can help split the overall price of your treatment(s) into low-to-no-interest, monthly installments.
