4 Tips to a Successful Holiday Season with Invisalign
October 6, 2021
Whether you’re staying home this holiday season, taking a road trip, or boarding a plane, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the celebration and forget to follow your Invisalign treatment plan. Getting off track with your Invisalign can set you back quite a bit and make it take longer to achieve the straight, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. To avoid setbacks while still enjoying the holidays to the fullest, follow these four tips to keep your Invisalign in Grand Island on track.
Tip #1: Don’t Forget to Wear Your Invisalign
With all the holidays comes chaos, and with the chaos comes forgetfulness. Though it may be difficult to remember to put your aligners back in after eating while traveling or hosting friends and family, the longer you wait to reinsert them, the greater the risk for treatment delays. Invisalign needs to be worn for at least 20-22 hours per day to work effectively, so forgetting to put it back in will cost you time and money due to backtracking or making adjustments to your treatment.
Tip #2: Remove Your Aligners While Eating and Drinking
When eating or drinking anything other than water, remember to remove your aligners to avoid staining or damaging them. Wearing your Invisalign while eating or drinking hot things can also warp the plastic and keep them from fitting correctly. Remembering to remove your Invisalign before consuming anything will keep them in good condition, and there should be no need to prolong your treatment.
Tip #3: Keep Your Aligner Case Nearby
Many people put their Invisalign in a napkin and set it on the table when they’re getting ready to eat or drink anything. This could lead to accidentally throwing away the aligners, which would mean you’d need new ones to be made and your treatment would be delayed. A good way to prevent this is by keeping your Invisalign carrying case on you and using it every time you remove your aligners.
Tip #4: Remember to Brush and Floss
From snacking to tasting to feasting, the holidays involve a lot of food. This means there are numerous opportunities for food to get stuck on and between your teeth. Brushing and flossing between meals will keep foods and beverages from sticking to your teeth and potentially transferring onto your aligners. If you’re at an airport and eat a meal while waiting on your flight, go to the bathroom and use travel sized toothpaste to clean your teeth before putting your aligners back on.
As fun as the holidays are, it’s important to maintain your Invisalign and keep your treatment plan on track. Soon, your hard work will pay off in the form of a straighter, healthier smile!
